Frequently Asked Questions |
We hope these questions cover all you need to know before joining a blush class. If you do have any more please feel free to get in touch we would be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Q. I am worried I might be too old/heavy - can I still try pole dancing?
A. Blush dance classes are for every age, shape, size and ability. It's normal to be slightly hesitant about joining a new class, but once you start, you will have forgotten all about your concerns. Classes are really sociable, fun and challenging and many students have met great friends at class.
Q. What should I wear to pole dance classes?
A. When you turn up for your first lesson, you should bring either a pair of shorts or tracksuit bottoms as well as a sports bra and vest top. You can also bring a pair of trainers or dance shoes although it's ok to dance barefoot
Q. What should I wear to burlesque classes?
A. For your first lesson you should bring tracksuit bottoms/leggings and a vest top, dance trainers/shoes and or heeled shoes, (straps are best). Occasionally we will provide props such as boas, gloves etc to dance with at burlesque classes and we will also inform you of items of clothing to bring to practice 'taking off' as the routine progresses. Your instructor will advise you in advance of what to bring and when.
Q. How many people are in a class?
A. Pole classes hold up to 15 people and do vary at different times of the year and venues, all our classes adhere to our policy of 3 people per pole. Burlesque classes hold up to 30 people in our larger studios.
Q. Will I be learning routines?
A. In pole dancing classes we learn moves separately first and then you learn how to link these moves to create a routine. This way you experience both a strength and toning workout and a cardiovascular workout every class. In burlesque classes you follow a similar format, learning moves and working all areas of the body, followed by the breaking down of a routine including performance tips and props. Routines and moves in both classes are taught over 6 weeks.
Q. How old do I have to be?
A. You must be 16 or older. If you are between 16-18 years of age, parental consent in the form of a signed consent form will be required.
Q. Would I need to do anything prior to starting pole dance classes?
A. Yes you will be asked to remove all jewellery as it may scratch the poles and also damage your jewellery. You must also remove all oils, body lotions and moisturisers as it compromises your griip and can be dangerous.
Q. How fit do I need to be to start pole dancing?
A. There is no expected level of fitness to starting beginner pole dancing lessons. In class we practice fitness and strengthening exercises to help improve muscle strength, flexibility and stamina. These exercises practised regularly alongside pole dancing moves will improve your level of fitness. Level 2 and 3 classes do require a level of fitness and capability to achieve the moves practised, which students gain from previous pole experience.
Q. I have been practising pole dancing at another class/at homoe and I would like to join blush classes, do I need to start at beginner level or can I join a level 2 class?
A. If you have practised pole dancing recently (in the past 3 months) and are confident performing the moves needed to join a Level 2 class then it would be ok to attend at this level. If you have been out of practise for longer than 3 months we recommend you attend a Level 1 classs to increase fitness levels before joining a level 2 class.
Q. How do I know what level is right for me?
A. Every level has a syllabus of moves which students learn during the course of the classes. Each level also has a compulsory list of moves which students work towards achieving before they can attend/move up a level. If you are a beginner level 1 is where we recommend you start, for more information on levels and where to join see our pole dance page or contact us.
Q. I've never danced before - will that hold me back?
A. No, pole dance classes help improve flexibility and co-ordination and our level 1 classes are designed with the total beginner in mind. If you have had dance/fitness/gymnastic training you may find it easier to achieve some of the moves, but is not essentail prior to coming to class.
Q. I just want to try, before I commit to a block of lessons. Can I do that with Blush?
A. We offer taster sessions and pole jams which are advertised via facebook, twitter and our mailing list. These are a great opportunity to sample the classes before you commit. As a second option we are happy for potential new studenst to visit and spectate a class and see what we do, how class is structured and what our clients are like, just contact us regarding when and where you would like to visit and we will arrange that for you
